Wily One’s beat Alderley Edge!
What a night! Last match of the first half. Massive thanks to all those who came down and made it memorable and loud.
First up was Josh vs Pickles. Pickles hits the ball at the speed of sound and he doesn’t half look like he’s trying to break the front wall. He’s been in div 1 for years and is a very tough guy to crack. Josh had opportunities and when he was able to structure rallies he took charge but it’s exceptionally hard to keep it composed when you’re playing a walking bazooka. Josh got pickled 3-0
Up next was Tez vs Matt Godson who is no joke. Rapid and ferret like on court. Tez left it all out there in a monster performance and was absolutely deserving of a win. She chucked the kitchen sink against someone who retrieved absolutely everything. Eventually falling 12-10 in a ridiculously tight 5th game. Did us proud there Tez. Great effort
Tomo wasted no time against a very talented and unfit number 5 who lost interest when a rally went over 4 shots. Kept his composure and a racked up a comfy 3-0 win
Emyr was on last and with some choice marking was able to assert his dominance against our former player Matt Gregory. Emyr was in charge, kept focus and turned the screw when he needed to. Meaning the match was on Jamie.
Jamie was playing the ridiculously experienced, steady and talented Matt Lowry who’s been around div 1. Beating juniors for years
In some of the best, most positive and controlled squash I’ve seen from Jamie. He went 2-0 up and 10-4 up in the 3rd. We couldn’t believe our luck. The dominoes order was about to be sent. Ben had gone the bar.
Matt fought back ridiculously well saving 5 match balls before stealing the 3rd 12-10 and then ploughing through the 4th
In an amazing show of character however. Jamie fought back and got up to 10-8 before Matt pegged him back to 10-10. Two ridiculously mature and purposeful rallies from Jamie with some simple but effective straight kills and the boy secured the match 12-10.
To say it was loud was an understatement. We were rowdy and it showed. One of the most emotional reactions I’ve seen from Jamie as he smashed over the line to win the 5th. Amazing show. Amazing end to the night
